Black Tahitian pearls are produced in the black-lipped oyster ‘Pinctada margaritifera’, in and around Tahiti and the French Polynesian islands.
Known to be quite large the oyester is often bigger than 12 inches across and can weigh as much as 10 lbs. that can sometimes result in a much bigger and larger than average pearl.

It's true but most all black Tahitian pearls aren't really black. Instead they are charcoal, silver, and even a multitude of colors but the most dominant color is that of green. Truly black Tahitian pearls are considered to be the most beautiful pearls in the world and are very rare. The pearls are unique
